In the year 97, between July and December of the same year, a series of Ovas titled simply as Rayearth was released, based on Magic Knight Rayearth but with great differences both in history and in drawing and character design.

This new story places Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu as classmates at Clamp Academy (Clamp Gakkuen) in its final year. Knowing that the separation was inevitable, because at the end of the academy each of the girls would have to follow their own path, Hikaru wishes to promise, together with them, under a cherry tree in the courtyard which is said to have magical properties that would always be friends. It is in this place that she sees Mokona for the first time and assumes she is the fairy that lives in the tree. Suddenly a strong earthquake hits the city, but it is not a simple earthquake, such movement is due to the fact that the country of Zephyr is dangerously close to our world to invade it.

It will be up to Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu to protect our world from invaders, engage them in fierce battles, awaken their inner strength, and save everyone’s future.
